Working from home: challenges and opportunities

All working people have one common dream, working comfortably from the comfort of their drawing rooms while sitting on their luxurious couches. Now, that dream has turned into reality amid this coronavirus pandemic. The fulfillment of that dream has brought some new challenges and opportunities for us.

The biggest convenience of working from home is the flexibility of working hours. Now there is no need to get up early and rush to the office. Moreover, one no more needs to commute through traffic to reach the office after what seems like an eternal journey. This has added a few more hours to one’s timetable, which one can utilize for some productive work. Also, the absence of office disturbances and the freedom to take occasional breaks at one’s will have made working a pleasant experience and thus increased a person’s efficiency. Also, now one can focus more on family, which is a boon for those with growing kids or ailing parents.

But it has its own fair share of challenges as well. One big challenge lies in transferring the entire office life at home. Not everything can be made available at home and hence only certain specific tasks can be done while working from home. Another issue is the solitude one feels because no real-life interaction with colleagues is possible, making work-life monotonous.

Everything considered, work from home has more positives than negatives and the biggest point in its favor is that it kept the economy rolling even during the lockdown.

सभी कामकाजी लोगों का एक सामान्य सपना होता है, अपने आलीशान सोफे पर बैठकर अपने ड्राइंग रूम के आराम से आराम से काम करना। अब, यह सपना इस कोरोना वायरस महामारी के बीच वास्तविकता में बदल गया है। उस सपने के पूरा होने से हमारे लिए कुछ नई चुनौतियां और अवसर आए हैं।

घर से काम करने की सबसे बड़ी सुविधा काम के घंटों का लचीलापन है। अब जल्दी उठने और दफ्तर जाने की जरूरत नहीं है। इसके अलावा, किसी को भी कार्यालय तक पहुंचने के लिए लंबी यात्रा करने की आवश्यकता नहीं है। इसने कुछ घंटों को दैनिक समय सारणी में जोड़ा है, जिसका उपयोग उत्पादक कार्यों के लिए किया जा सकता है। इसके अलावा, कार्यालय में होने वाले व्यवधान की अनुपस्थिति और कभी भी ब्रेक लेने की स्वतंत्रता ने एक सुखद अनुभव का काम किया है और इस प्रकार कार्य की दक्षता में वृद्धि हुई है। इसके अलावा, अब परिवार पर अधिक ध्यान केंद्रित किया जा सकता है, जो बढ़ते बच्चों या बीमार माता-पिता के लिए एक वरदान है।

एक बड़ी चुनौती घर पर पूरे कार्यालय के जीवन को स्थानांतरित करने में है। सब कुछ घर पर उपलब्ध नहीं कराया जा सकता है और इसलिए घर से काम करते समय केवल कुछ विशिष्ट कार्य किए जा सकते हैं। सहयोगियों के साथ कोई वास्तविक बातचीत संभव  नहीं होने के कारण  कार्य नीरस हो जाता है।

इन सब के मद्देनज़र घर से काम करने के फायदे ज्यादा है और नुकसान कम और इसके पक्ष में सबसे बड़ी बात यह है कि इसने अर्थव्यवस्था को लॉकडाउन के दौरान भी संभाला ।

Subject: Highlighting the problems faced by labourers due to lockdown

Sir,

I am writing this letter to draw your kind attention to the hardships being faced by the migrant labourers due to nationwide lockdown amid Covid-19 pandemic.

Due to lockdown, they have lost their jobs and that has pushed them into destitution. Many are living far away from their hometowns and it is becoming difficult for them to survive there without jobs. Returning to their homes is not possible due to lockdown. Their savings are depleting, they are running out of ration and are now forced to sleep in the streets. Many of them have young children, who too have to suffer.

Hence, through your newspaper, I wish to bring their hardships into the light. I hope you will be kind enough to publish my letter.

विषय : लॉकडाउन के कारण श्रमिकों को हो रही समस्याओं से अवगत कराने हेतु 

महाशय,

इस पत्र के माध्यम से मैं आपका ध्यान कोविड-19 महामारी के प्रसार को रोकने के लिए देश में लागू किये गए लॉकडाउन के कारण श्रमिकों को हो रही समस्याओं की ओर आकर्षित करना चाहता हूँ।

लॉकडाउन के कारण उनकी नौकरियाँ चली गयी हैं तथा इस कारण से वे अभावग्रस्त हो गए हैं। कई श्रमिक अपने गृह राज्य से काफी दूर रहते हैं तथा बिना नौकरी के वहां जीवन निर्वाह करना उनके लिए मुश्किल साबित हो रहा है। लॉकडाउन के कारण घर लौटना संभव नहीं है। उनकी बचत समाप्त हो रही है। उन्हें भूखे पेट सड़कों पर सोना पड़ रहा है। उनमें से कई श्रमिकों के छोटे बच्चे हैं। उनकी पीड़ा का अंदाज़ा लगाना भी मुश्किल है।  

अतः आपके दैनिक के माध्यम से, मैं उनकी समस्याओं को प्रकाश में लाना चाहता हूँ। उम्मीद है कि आप मेरे पत्र को प्रकाशित करेंगे।
