Staff Selection Commission every year conducts the SSC CGL exam for the recruitment to various Group B and Group C posts in several departments under the Government of India. SSC CGL is conducted in four tiers – Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3 and Tier 4.

As we all know, different exams require different preparation strategies. Therefore, for effective preparation of any exam, it is imperative to have a complete knowledge of its syllabus. Recently in 2016, SSC overhauled its examination pattern and incorporated a descriptive pen and paper-based exam as Tier 3 which is of qualifying nature. To crack this exam, aspirants have to thoroughly prepare with a proper study plan keeping in mind the syllabus of the exam. To help aspirants, we are sharing the syllabus for SSC CGL Tier 3 so that they can plan their preparation in a systematic manner.

SSC CGL Tier 3 syllabus consists of Essay/ Letter/ Application/ Précis writing. The exam is of 100 marks and the time allotted for the same is 60 minutes. The Essay may have a weightage of 50-60 marks. If both letter and précis writing are asked in the exam, they may each carry 20-25 marks. If only one of these two is asked, the weightage can be of 40-50 marks.

The candidate can attempt the paper either in English or Hindi medium. But a paper attempted partly in English and partly in Hindi will not be considered for evaluation. Marks are awarded to the candidates on the basis of certain parameters like the clarity of expression, command over the language, correct usage of grammar, coherence level, relevance, content etc.
