Q9. There are 640 students in a school. The ratio of boys to girl is 5:3. If 30 girls are increased in number then how many number of boys should be increased so that the ratio should be 14 : 9

Ans-

Number of students = 5+3 = 8 unit

8 unit = 640

Number of boys = 5 unit = 400

Number of girls = 3 unit = 240

If 30 girls are increased then number of girls = 240+30 = 270

Required ratio = 14 : 9

9 unit = 270

14 unit = 420

Increment in Number of boys = 420 – 400 = 20

Ans-

Difference of age = 6-5 unit = 1 unit

1 unit = 6 year

Age of A = 5*6 = 30 years

Age of B = 6*6 = 36 years

Required ratio = (30+5) : (36+5)

= 35 : 41

Q17. A can do a piece of work in 24 days, B can do the same work in 15 days, C and do the same work in 10 days. They work together for 3 days, then B and C left the work. Then find the time taken by A to complete the remaining work.

Ans-

Let the total work = 120

Efficiency of A = 120/24 = 5 unit/d

Efficiency of B = 120/15 = 8 unit/d

Efficiency of C = 120/10 = 12 unit/d

Total work in 3 days = (5+8+12)*3 = 75 unit

Remaining work = 120 – 69 = 45 unit

Time taken by A to complete the remaining = 45/5 = 9 days
