I am posting 15 varieties questions on ” Work and Time” .  This is considered a difficult chapter. Generally 2-3 questions can be asked in Tier 1 and 5-8 in Tier 2. This chapter will have direct link with other chapters like Pipes and Cistern and Work and Wages.

    M * 9 = (M-5)*12
    3M= 60
    M=20

    Q13.: This question type you should always solve by using option. Very simple. Similar question came in 2014 Tier 1.

    How ?
    Took option C, try others they will not bring you 100/9
    B A Let total work (LCM technique)
    25 Days 20 days 100 units

    1 day: 4 units 1 day: 5 units

    Both A and B 1 day = 9 units So total time(days): 100/9

    Note: Avoid x method in this case

    Q14. . Let total work LCM of 10,12,15 = 60 units

    A B C Total work
    days 10 12 15 60 units
    1 day work 6 units 5 units 4 units

    Note: Trick: always start this variety from behind/ last
    c works alone in last 3 days, so work 4*3 = 12 units
    B & C work for 2 days =( 5+4) *2= 18 units
    So last 5 days = 18+12 = 30 units.
    It means 60-30= 30 units work happened initially which was done by A+B+C which they do in one day = 6+5+4= 15 units. So for 30 units these three in starting will take 30/15= 2 days.
    Now total days
    A+B+C B+C C
    2 days 2 days 3 days = 7 days

  2. Q2: Q2. A and B can do a work in 12 days, B and C in 15 days and C and A in 20 days. If A, B and C work together, they will complete the work in:
    solve like this: Take total work 60 units ( LCM of 12, 15, 20)
    A+ B 12 days work : 60 unit
    A+ B 1 daywork 5 unit
    B+ C 1 day work 4 unit
    C+ A 1 day work 3 unit
    A+B+ B+C+ C+A i.e. 2(A+B+C) 1 day work = 5+4+3 =12 unit
    A+B+C 1 day work = 6 unit
    Days work completed = 60/6 = 10 days

    Q. A wall of 100 meters can be built by 7 men or 10 women in 10 days. How many days will 14 men and 20 women take to build a wall of 600 meters?
    explanation:
    7m = 10 w
    14 m = 20 w

    14 m & 20 women = 20 w+ 20 w = 40 w

    Now given 10 w can built wall 100 meter in 10 days, then 600 m will be built in 60 days by these 10 w.

    10 w built 600 m in = 60 days
    1 w………………= 60*10
    40 w………………= 60*10 divided by 40 = 15 days so option (a) is correct.

  5. No need to solve qu 10 from starting….jst start from c’s work…1/2(1/A+1/B)=1\20….we will get the work of A and B for 1 day….then add 1 day work of C and of A and B….i.e 1 day work for A+B+C= 1/20+1/10

    1 Man takes time to do work = M,
    1 woman takes time to do work= W,
    now
    (5T/M+2T/W)=4*(T/M+T/W)…given

    multipy both side by M
    M/W=1/2.
    so may be answer is b instead of a.

  9. Now there is a simple short cut formula…
    A+b+c = (one day work of a+b + one day work of b+c + one day work of c+d) divided by 2
    Like..
    A+b+c = 5+4+3/2 = 6
    Now divide whole work with one day work
    60/ 6 = 10
    10 day is the ans.

  11. 14 men and 20 women are equal to 28 men hence:
    (7*10)/1=(28*x)/6 (7 men can do work in 10 days then 28 men will do 6 times work in x days)
    x=15

  12. in the question no. 5 my answer is 4 days but this is wrong so how do you solve this question? kindly show me the steps

  14. A- 3unit/day B= 2 unit/day. in 2 days- 5 unit. so required days= (30/5)X2= 12 days

    LCM 60
    work eff. 4 5 and 3 =12/2=6
    60/6=10

    @ hardeep i couldn’t get (work eff. 4 5 and 3 =12/2=6) this part of ur solution. Would you explain it ?

  17. 1/3rd work requires 24*25 men days
    therefore 2/3rd work will require = (24*25*3*2)/3 men days = 1200 men days (using unitary metod)
    But we have to complete the work 4 days earlier which is 40-4 = 36
    and workers has already worked for 24 days, therefore remaining days = 12 days

    now suppose x men works daily for 12 days, then men days = 12 * x

    which is equal to 1200 men days
    12 * x = 1200
    => x = 100 men.

    but because we already have 25 men , therefore we will need 100-25 = 75 men more
    so answer is 75
