Food security is a measure of the availability of food and individuals' ability to access it. Food security exists when all people, at all times, have physical and economic access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food to meet their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life.

Despite our economic growth in the past few decades, food security has been a major challenge in India. A large chunk of the population still sleeps empty stomach in India. 25% of all hungry people worldwide live in India and 38% of children between 0-5 years are stunted in the country. India has ranked 102nd among 107 countries in the Global Hunger Index.

Providing food security in India has numerous challenges. One big challenge is our population. To feed such a large population, agricultural production needs to be adequate. But factors like flood, drought, a decline in soil fertility, water scarcity, etc bring down the agricultural yield.
