Wildlife is a natural resource that plays a crucial role in maintaining the ecological balance. However, due to reckless human interference, our biodiversity has been shrinking for the last few decades.

 

In the process of making his life more comfortable, man has forgotten that every species has an equal right to live. Rapid industrialization and urbanization are the major causes of the loss of flora and fauna. Forest cover, which is the habitat of wildlife, is gradually declining to accommodate the evergrowing population. Moreover, pollution and forest fires are equally responsible for the extinction.

 

Anthropogenic activities like the usage of plastic, poaching, etc have further aggravated the problem. Climate change,  which is a direct consequence of human activities, is equally blameworthy.

 

The need of the hour is to conserve our biodiversity. The international community has taken many initiatives such as the man and biosphere program by UNESCO etc. The Indian government also adopted the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
