As you all know Staff Selection Commission has released SSC CGL 2018 Tier III marks. Candidates who have qualified in Tier III are eligible to appear for Tier IV. According to the notification released by the Staff Selection Commission on its official website, the SSC CGL Tier 4 Skill test is scheduled to be held on 18 and 19 December 2020.

Tier IV is mandatory for some posts- CSS (Assistant), MEA (Assistant), Inspector (Central Excise), Inspector (Preventive Officer), Inspector (Examiner) and Tax Assistant. If candidates fail to give due importance to SSC CGL Tier 4, they could be in trouble as it could result in a hit or miss. Therefore, it’s imperative to understand the nature and pattern of SSC CGL Tier 4 examination.

Tier 4 consists of Computer Proficiency Test (CPT) and Data Entry Skill Test (DEST) which are qualifying in nature.

COMPUTER PROFICIENCY TEST: CPT includes MS Word, MS Excel and MS Powerpoint.

MS Word: Candidates will be provided with a hard copy of the passage which they are required to type on the computer. A candidate is expected to type 2000 characters in 15 minutes. The passage does not include any formatting like Bold, Italics, Underlining.

MS Excel: Candidates will be provided with a hard copy of the instructions asking them to create a table in 15 minutes. It will be an easy exercise based on simple formulas like Multiplication, Percentage, Profit etc.

MS Powerpoint: Candidates will be required to create a single slide in Microsoft Powerpoint in 15 minutes and perform basic functions like inserting header/footer, inserting table, date and time etc.

DATA ENTRY SKILL TEST: It is same as typing in MS Word for CPT. Candidates appearing in CPT are not required to appear for DEST separately. Typing in MS Word for CPT will be considered for their evaluation.


FULL MISTAKES: Following are treated as full mistakes:

For every omission of word/ figure.

For every substitution of a wrong word/ figure.

For every addition of a word/ figure not found in the passage.

HALF MISTAKES: Following are treated as half mistakes:

Spacing errors: Where no space is provided between two words. Ex., ‘Ihope’ or undesired space is provided between the words or letters of a word. Ex., ‘hope I have’, I hxxave.

Repetition of letter: For every spelling error committed by way of repetition, or addition or transposition or omission or substitution of a letter/letters. Ex., the word ‘spelling’ typed as ‘seeplings’ etc.

Wrong Capitalisation: Wrong use of capital letter for small letter and vice-versa. (This does not apply to Hindi typewriting scripts).
