Despite the presence of a plethora of social welfare schemes for every sector, India is far behind in creating a harmonious and prosperous society. The commitment of suicides by the farmers, lack of quality education, underutilization of demographic dividend all raise brows regarding the reach and efficacy of these schemes.

The government’s intention to assist the poor and their upliftment is clear, but there are various lacunas in their implementation. Mismanagement, lack of transparency, corruption, under-utilization of allocated funds, government’s misdiagnosis of the issues, and lack of political will are often considered the reasons behind the failure.
