Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana was launched in 2014 to provide universal access to banking facilities to the people in the country.

The objective of PMJDY is to ensure access to various financial services like availability of basic savings bank accounts, access to need-based credit, remittance facility, insurance, and pension to weaker sections and low-income groups. It envisages channeling all government benefits to the beneficiary accounts and the Direct Benefit Transfer scheme of the central government.
