• The second edition of the biennial pan-India coastal defense exercise 'Sea Vigil-21' has been started.

• The inaugural edition of the exercise was conducted in January 2019.

• The two-day biennial pan-India coastal defense exercise will be undertaken along the entire 7,516-kilometer-long coastline. 

• The exercise has included the Exclusive Economic Zone of the country and involved all the 13 coastal states and Union Territories along with other maritime stakeholders.

• The exercise is a build-up towards the major Theatre-level exercise TROPEX [Theatre-level Readiness Operational Exercise] which the Indian Navy conducts every two years. 

• SEA VIGIL and TROPEX together cover the entire spectrum of maritime security challenges, including transition from peace to conflict.

• The basic law sets out mechanisms for the appointment of a crown prince and his duties. 
• The report did not say who would become the new crown prince or provide other details.

• Sultan Haitham came to power a year ago after the death of his predecessor Sultan Qaboos. 
• Qaboos did not have a crown prince and named his preferred successor in a sealed envelope opened after his death.

• इसमें पहली बार देश में क्राउन प्रिंस की नियुक्ति और संसद के कामकाज के लिए नए नियम शामिल हैं। सुल्तान की ओर से जारी नए बुनियादी कानून में नागरिकों के लिए ज्यादा अधिकारों और स्वतंत्रता में सरकार की भूमिका पर जोर दिया गया है।

• Union Minister of Environment, Forest & Climate Change Prakash Javadekar has released the Management Effectiveness Evaluation (MEE) report of 146 national parks and wildlife sanctuaries in the country. 

•  The minister also announced that from this year onwards ten best national parks, five coastal and marine parks, and top five zoos in the country would be ranked and awarded every year.

• Seventy percent of the global tiger population, 70 per cent of asiatic lions and more than 60 percent of leopards'' population are present in India.

• As per the MEE report, West Bengal's Jaldapara national park and Raiganj wildlife sanctuary, Himachal Pradesh's Sainj and Tirthan wildlife sanctuaries as well as the Great Himalayan national park have been declared as top-five national parks and wildlife sanctuaries in India.

• वर्तमान में भारत में 903 संरक्षित क्षेत्रों का एक नेटवर्क है, जो देश के कुल भौगोलिक क्षेत्र का लगभग पांच प्रतिशत है। 

• संरक्षित क्षेत्रों की क्षमता का आकलन करने के लिए प्रबंधन प्रभावशीलता का मूल्यांकन करना आवश्यक है।
• इस वर्ष से दस सर्वश्रेष्ठ राष्ट्रीय उद्यान (national parks) , पांच तटीय और समुद्री पार्क (coastal and marine parks ) तथा देश के शीर्ष पांच चिड़ियाघरों (zoos) को प्रतिवर्ष सम्मानित किया जाएगा|

• Chitre had also served as president of the Astronomical Society of India and the chairman of the Indian National Committee for Astronomy.
