• World Press Freedom Day is observed on May 3. 

• In 1993, the UN General Assembly proclaimed 3 May as World Press Freedom Day following a recommendation adopted at the twenty-sixth session of UNESCO’s General Conference in 1991. 

• It serves as an occasion to inform citizens of the violations of press freedom.

• This year’s World Press Freedom Day theme “Information as a Public Good” serves as a call to affirm the importance of cherishing information as a public good, and exploring what can be done in the production, distribution and reception of content to strengthen journalism, and to advance transparency and empowerment while leaving no one behind.

• 3 मई को विश्व प्रेस स्वतंत्रता दिवस World Press Freedom Day मनाया जाता है।

•  3 मई को दुनियाभर में स्वस्थ और मजबूत लोकतंत्र के लिए प्रेस की स्वतंत्रता को मनाया जाता है।

•  1991 में UNESCO के महासम्मेलन में अपनाई गई सिफारिश के बाद 1993 में संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा द्वारा विश्व प्रेस स्वतंत्रता दिवस घोषित किया गया था।

• इस वर्ष के विश्व प्रेस स्वतंत्रता दिवस की थीम  “Information as a Public Good”  20 अप्रैल, 2021 को जारी नवीनतम विश्व प्रेस स्वतंत्रता सूचकांक 2021 की लिस्ट जारी की गई है। 

• 180 देशों में भारत 142वें स्थान पर है।
• नॉर्वे पिछले पांच सालों से पहले स्थान पर है। इसके बाद फिनलैंड और डेनमार्क क्रमशः दूसरे और तीसरे स्थान पर हैं।

• The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of T Rabi Sankar, Executive Director, RBI, as Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for a period of three years.

• He succeeds B P Kanungo, who retired on April 2.

• Currently, Rabi Sankar is in charge of Fintech, department of IT, RTI, risk monitoring, department of payment and settlement systems. The RBI has in all four Deputy Governors.

• The other three serving Deputy Governors are Mahesh Kumar Jain, Michael Patra and M Rajeshwar Rao.

•  The DMK fielded candidates in 173 seats [including some of its allies who contested on rising sun symbol], while 15 candidates from alliance partners contested on their respective symbols.

Additional Information: 

• West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee lost in Nandigram to -BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari while her party won a landslide victory in the state.

• Banerjee can still take over as chief minister but will have to get elected in the next six months to continue in the post.

• Article 164(4) of the Constitution states: “A Minister who for any period of six consecutive months is not a member of the Legislature of the State shall at the expiration of that period cease to be a Minister.”

• पश्चिम बंगाल मे ममता बनर्जी की पार्टी तृणमूल कांग्रेस ने एक बार फिर बहुमत से सत्ता में वापसी कर ली। हालाँकि  मुख्यमंत्री ममता बनर्जी नंदीग्राम विधानसभा सीट से चुनाव हार गईं। ममता बनर्जी अभी भी मुख्यमंत्री पद संभाल सकती हैं,

• Before taking up cricket administration, Rungta played First Class cricket for Maharashtra and Rajasthan from 1953/54 to 1969/70. And after retirement, he served in the national selection panel

• His elder brother P.M. Rungta was the chief of the Indian cricket board.

• BCCI के पूर्व मुख्य चयनकर्ता किशन रुंगता का 88 वर्ष की उम्र में  कोविद -19 के कारण निधन हो गया

• किशन रुंगता ने 1998 में सेंट्रल ज़ोन से राष्ट्रीय चयनकर्ता के रूप में काम किया।
