• The virtual meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Bay of Bengal Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) has finalised a major Connectivity master plan for the Bay of Bengal region. 

• The seven-member regional grouping namely India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Myanmar will take up the Master plan for transport connectivity for adoption in the next summit of the organisation to be hosted by Sri Lanka in a few months from now.

• The meeting also endorsed three MoUs/agreements relating to convention on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal matters, cooperation between diplomatic and training academies and establishment of BIMSTEC Technology Transfer Facility in Colombo

• The connectivity master plan is the outcome of more than a decade of consultations among the member states.

• The study conducted by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in 2007 and 2014, identified 166 connectivity projects at an estimated cost of USD 50 billion out of which 65 projects were identified as priority projects.

• The scholarship carries an amount of 20,000 Taka for students of Higher Secondary and 50,000 Taka to Undergraduate category students, who are direct descendents of Muktijoddhas or Liberation War fighters of Bangladesh.

• The Govt of India has sanctioned an amount of 35 crore Taka for both schemes combined together. 

• भारत, दोनों देशों के लोगों के बीच संपर्क बढ़ाने के उद्देश्‍य से बांग्‍लादेश मुक्ति संग्राम के योद्धाओं की संतानों को  (मुक्तिजोधा छात्रवृत्ति) दे रहा है। 

• यह योजना प्रधानमंत्री शेख हसीना की 2017 में हुई दिल्‍ली यात्रा के दौरान शुरू की गई थी। 

• इस योजना के तहत उच्‍च माध्‍यमिक High secondary तथा स्‍नातक स्‍तर Graduation level के एक-एक हज़ार छात्रों को Scholarship प्रदान की जाती है।

•  पांच साल के अंदर दस हज़ार छात्रों को छात्रवृत्ति देने का प्रावधान है।

•  योजना के तहत उच्‍च माध्‍यमिक स्‍तर के छात्रों को 20 हज़ार टका सालाना और स्‍नातक स्‍तर के छात्रों को 50 हज़ार टका वजीफा दिया जाएगा|

• भारत सरकार ने इस योजना के लिए 35 करोड़ टका स्‍वीकृत किया था।
