• His research on famines and his theory of human development, welfare economics and the underlying mechanisms of poverty have contributed to the fight against injustice, inequality, disease and ignorance

• The award comprises a Joan Miro sculpture representing and symbolising the Award, a diploma, an insignia and a cash prize of 50,000 Euros.

• He had recently recovered from COVID-19

• He joined the freedom struggle at a young age. While his initial involvement with the freedom movement was radical in nature, he came under the influence of Mahatma Gandhi later. 

• He organised protests and strikes in the erstwhile kingdom of Mysore against the British rule and participated in the Quit India movement. He was jailed for 14 months in 1943-1944.

• स्वतंत्रता सेनानी एच.एस. डोरेस्वामी का  निधन हो गया. उनकी आयु 104 वर्ष थी.

• हाल ही में वे कोरोना संक्रमित पाए गए थे.

• Olympic winner, Sushil Kumar, was arrested on May 23 for his involvement in the death of a 23 years old wrestler, Sagar Dhankhar, at Chhatrasal Stadium in Delhi. 

• Apart from him, his associate and co-accused Ajay was also arrested.

• Sushil Kumar was appointed as senior commercial manager in Northern Railway and he was on deputation with Delhi government since 2015.

•  He was posted as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) at Chhatrasal Stadium to look after development of sports at school level. His deputation was extended in 2020 and he had applied for an extension for 2021. 

• But extension was rejected and Kumar was sent back to his parent cadre, Northern Railway.

•  उत्तर रेलवे ने दिल्ली पुलिस द्वारा हत्या के एक मामले में गिरफ्तार किए जाने के बाद पहलवान सुशील कुमार को निलंबित करने का आदेश दिया है।

• ओलंपिक विजेता सुशील कुमार को 23 मई को दिल्ली के छत्रसाल स्टेडियम में  पहलवान सागर धनखड़ की मौत में शामिल होने के आरोप में गिरफ्तार किया गया।

• सुशील कुमार को उत्तर रेलवे में वरिष्ठ वाणिज्यिक प्रबंधक के रूप में नियुक्त किया गया था और वह 2015 से दिल्ली सरकार के साथ प्रतिनियुक्ति पर थे।
