• Rafael Nadal beat world number one Novak Djokovic to win a 10th Italian Open title. 

• Nadal also equalled Djokovic’s record of 36 ATP Masters 1000 titles in his 12th Rome final.

• The title also re-established Nadal as the overwhelming favorite for the French Open, where he will be aiming for an even harder-to-believe 14th title starting in two weeks.

• The Women's Singles title has been won by Polish teenager Iga Swiatek.
• She defeated ninth seed Czech Karolina Pliskova.

• In the men's doubles, the second-seeded Croats Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic powered their way to their sixth Italian Open trophy, beating fifth-seeded Rajeev Ram of the USA and Britain's Joe Salisbury.
• The Women's Doubles title has been clinched by Sharon Fichman and Giuliana Olmos after defeating Kristina Mladenovic and Markéta Vondroušová in the final

• The honour was announced at a two-day virtual session which was attended by representatives from over 110 countries.

• Virologist Shahid Jameel, one of the most prominent scientific voices of the pandemic, has resigned as the head of the Indian SARS-COV-2 Genomics Consortia (INSACOG), the scientific advisory group coordinating the country’s genome sequencing work.

• INSACOG had come into being in January this year as a scientific body to promote and expedite genome sequencing of the SARS-CoV2 virus and its multiple variants. 

• The consortium had established a network of ten leading laboratories to carry out gene sequencing of virus samples from across the country.
•  The consortium was initially given a tenure of six months, but later got an extension. 
• वायरोलॉजिस्ट शाहिद जमील ने देश के जीनोम सिक्वेंसिंग के काम में समन्वय करने वाले वैज्ञानिक सलाहकार ग्रुप, इंडियन SARS-COV-2 जीनोमिक्स कंसोर्टिया (INSACOG) के प्रमुख के तौर पर इस्तीफा दे दिया है.

• जमील ने ऑक्सीजन सप्लाई के प्रबंधन के लिए एक टास्क फोर्स नियुक्त करने के सुप्रीम कोर्ट के हालिया फैसले की भी आलोचना की थी.

• Under Atma Nirbhar Bharat 3.0 Mission COVID Suraksha was announced by the Government of India, to accelerate the development and production of Indigenous COVID Vaccines.

•  This is being implemented by the Department of Biotechnology, at Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council, BIRAC, New Delhi. 

• To augment the capacity of Indigenous production of Covaxin under the Mission, the Department of Biotechnology had provided financial support to vaccine manufacturing facilities for enhanced production capacities, which is expected to reach more than 10 crore doses per month by September this year.

•  The financial support is being provided as grant from Centre to the tune of approximately Rs. 65 Crore to Bharat Biotech’s new Bangalore facility which is being repurposed to increase the capacity of vaccine production.

• भारत सरकार द्वारा आत्मनिर्भर भारत 3.0 के तहत कोविड के स्वदेशी टीकों के विकास और उत्पादन में तेजी लाने के लिए मिशन कोविड सुरक्षा की घोषणा की गई थी। इस मिशन को भारत सरकार के जैव प्रौद्योगिकी विभाग Department of Biotechnology द्वारा जैव प्रौद्योगिकी उद्योग अनुसंधान सहायता परिषद Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), नई दिल्ली में कार्यान्वित किया जा रहा है।

• India's Tejaswini Shankar has bagged men's high jump titles in the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Manhattan, USA. 

• The 22 year old athlete cleared the bar at 2.28 meter to win high jump gold. However, despite the spectacular performance, Shankar fell short of the Tokyo Olympic Games qualification standard of 2.33 m.

• Shankar is the third Indian to compete in the highly competitive USA circuit, the breeding ground for many US track and field Olympians.

• Triple jumper Mohinder Singh Gill, India's leading jumper in 1970s, and discus thrower Vikas Gowda are the other Indians to compete in the NCAA.
